2019 CPhI Pharma Awards Categories

The CPhI Pharma Awards seek to recognise innovation in the Pharmaceutical industry and are open to Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical companies, engaged in the design, development, manufacture, production and distribution of large and small molecule drug products.

The Pharma Awards are open to both exhibitors and non-exhibitors of CPhI Worldwide. The deadline for entries is 16 August 2019.

With the exception of the Lifetime Achievement, Pharma Service Company of the Year and CEO of the Year categories, entries should refer to products, services and initiatives launched in between 9 June 2018 – 30 June 2019.

1. Excellence in Pharma: API Development
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services for the development and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) including, but not limited to, synthesis, characterization, formulation, scale-up, software and database development, bulk manufacturing.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new idea, device, method or novelty to the market?
  • Purpose: Does it achieve its purpose? Does it offer benefits to the audience it was designed for?
  • Problem-solving: Does it solve a problem? Does it address an issue in an effective way?

2. Excellence in Pharma: Finished Formulation
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services related to the formulation of drug products including, but not limited to, excipients, finished dose, OTC, novel software and databases, process development, resolving formulation challenges such as solubility/ bioavailability enhancement, drug targeting or controlled release, solving stability issues such as protein aggregation, etc.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new idea, device, method or novelty to the market?
  • Purpose: Does it achieve its purpose? Does it offer benefits to the audience it was designed for?

3. Excellence in Pharma: Manufacturing Technology and Equipment
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services for the manufacture of solid, semi-solid, parenteral, inhalation, or other dosage drugs including, but not limited to, equipment, manufacturing processes, facilities, process controls, and continuous manufacturing.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new idea, device, method or novelty to the market?
  • Features: Does the product have interesting or important part(s), qualities, abilities, improved attributes?

4. Excellence in Pharma: Bioprocessing & Manufacturing – powered by BioProcess International Magazine
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services for the processing and manufacture of biologic-based drugs including, but not limited to, equipment, raw materials, cell lines, manufacturing processes, facilities, process controls, and continuous biomanufacturing.
Criteria

5. Excellence in Pharma: Analysis, Testing, and Quality Control
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services for the analysis and testing of drug substances, raw materials, and drug products in a laboratory on production line setting including, but not limited to, laboratory instruments and equipment, analytical instruments, laboratory software, quality control tools, data integrity systems, and contract laboratory services.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new solution, idea, device, method or service to the market?
  • Process Excellence: Does the product or service offer a series of actions of extremely high quality that produce something or that lead to an improved result?

6. Excellence in Pharma: Packaging & Drug Delivery Devices
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services related to primary and secondary packaging of finished drug forms, and delivery of drug products to patients. Including, but not limited to, inhalers, auto-injectors, vials, syringes, patches, combination products, tamper-proof packaging, child-safety packaging, labelling, intelligent packaging, and fill-finish.

7. Excellence in Pharma: Supply Chain, Logistics, and Distribution
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services for ensuring the safe handling and tracking of drug substances, raw materials, and finished drug products including, but not limited to, logistics, audits, cold chain, transport services, track and trace, shipping containers, and distribution channels.

8. Excellence in Pharma: Contract Services and Outsourcing
Innovation in contracted services and processes for the bio/pharmaceutical industry including, but not limited to, drug research, development, formulation, scale up, process development, clinical trial manufacturing, drug product manufacturing, API development and manufacturing, laboratory services, and consulting.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new idea, device, method or service to the market?
  • Process Excellence: Does the product or service offer a series of actions of extremely high quality that produce something or that lead to an improved result?

9. Excellence in Pharma: Regulatory Procedures and Compliance
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services designed to aid and ensure that bio/pharma companies comply with standards, rules, and guidance documents established by regulatory authorities including, but not limited to, consulting services, development of consortia and industry groups, reference standards, educational programs, and software and IT, technologies, and equipment.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Does the entry introduce a new idea, device, method or service to the market?
  • Process Excellence: Does the product or service offer an improved process, leading to better outcomes and results?
  • Problem-solving: Does it solve a problem? Does it address an issue in an effective way?

10. Excellence in Pharma: CEO of the Year – no entries accepted
C-Suite Executives of SME, Large Pharma/Biopharma or service providers are eligible for nomination. Attributes to be considered include, but are not limited to, financial performance, product performance, global reach, leadership skills, management capability, charitable initiatives, sustainability, regulatory compliance, profitability, vision, marketing, acquisitions, corporate strategy, and financing.
Criteria
  • Dynamism: Is the nominee an exemplary leader with a strong desire to achieve – are they compelling, powerful, progressive?
  • Lifetime Achievements: Has the CEO achieved or accomplished sustained growth, driven improved performance, implemented robust strategies, engaged staff and customers in their current role or throughout the course of their career?
  • Leadership Qualities: Has the CEO consistent personal strengths and attributes that makes he or she an extraordinary leader?
  • Contribution to the Wider Industry: Is the CEO committed to the development of the pharma industry – be in the form of donating goods, funding, time, market insights business intelligence, new lines of business?
 
11. Excellence in Pharma: Pharma Service Company of the Year – no entries accepted
Innovation in technologies, products, processes, and services designed to aid and ensure that bio/pharma companies comply with compendial standards, rules, and guidance documents established by regulatory authorities including, but not limited to, consulting services, development of consortia and industry groups, reference standards, educational programs, and software and IT, technologies, and equipment.
Criteria
  • Innovation: Has the organization demonstrated a new strategy, process, method or service to the market in the past 12 months which has had a significant impact?
  • Depth & breadth of competencies: Has the organization received industry accolades or accreditations for products or services?
  • Operational excellence: Has the organization demonstrated actions towards improving operational performance?
  • Business Growth & Success: Has the organization carried out any specific activities or initiatives that have contributed to business growth? For example, progress in emerging markets. What achievements is the organization most proud of over the past year, how will you ensure continued success?
  • Differentiation: What makes your organization stand out from the competition?
 
12. Excellence in Pharma: Lifetime Achievement Award – no entries accepted
The winner of this Award will be an exceptional individual with a consistent history of service, above and beyond the call of duty, throughout their career. Nominees will be recognised industry leaders, with a demonstrable commitment towards driving innovation and advancement within Pharma, in any capacity. This prestigious Award will go to someone who has had a distinguished career in the biotech or pharmaceutical arena, primarily within industry. The winner may be retired or semi-retired but will still be active in the industry in some capacity.
